Quatrain of Reaching Maturity

Reaching Maturity - I shouldn't have

When I was very young, I couldn't
wait to grow up, I thought
adults were
wise,

To my oblique dismay, a heartbreak
I would find, illogical
grownups take first
prize.

The disappointment was so great I
wished for my childhood to
return, at the twist of a
dial,

But I have been forced to grow old
like everyone else and become
a fool: my foolishness in
denial.
