Quatrain of Back & Forth

Back & Forth - which way to go?

I thought I was moving forward
from the time I was born,
to a better life,
one I could
afford.

It turns out I have been going
backward, foolishly walking
toward a river of sin
I must now
ford.

I have spent much time deciding
in which direction I should
be moving, only
to get it
wrong,

I shall now ask God for a moral
compass, I don't wish to get
wet nor wander back
and forth,
lifelong.
